Pizza Pilgrims

Lovely to see the guys from Pizza Pilgrim at the Taste of London Festival in Regent’s Park. Pizza Pilgrims is the brainchild of brothers Thom and James Elliot who gave up their ‘proper’ jobs in advertising to embark on a 4,000km road trip around Italy to uncover the secrets of making the perfect pizza. They did this all in their tiny 3-wheel Piaggio Ape van which they later turned into a travelling pizza oven and for many years was to be found at Soho’s Berwick Street market before they opened their first permanent restaurant  site just round the corner on Dean Street.

They very kindly invited me to make and cook a pizza in their famous oven, an opportunity I definitely couldn’t pass up. To be fair the dough was pre-made so I only had to shape it and add the toppings, but you can see my efforts in the attached photos. I think I did a pretty good job, even if I do say so myself!
